Medicine Hat, AB to Drumheller, AB
Unventful drive to Drumheller today. The camera batteries were dead so we were unable to get a picture of the Giant Tipi in Medicine Hat. Does anyone know when the changed the spelling for teepee?
Off the T-Can at highway 56 to Drumheller. We were definately in the Badlands - not much cash crops, just ranches and scrub brush. I had forgotten how dramatic it is when you enter Drumheller Valley. It was breathtaking.
We pulled into our site at The HooDoo RV Resort and Campground. Nice place on the shores of the Red River. Lots of grass, playgrounds, off-leash dog area, and even a baseball diamond. Unfortunately their WiFi was not working, so I am a few days behind in blogging.
After getting set up, we headed straight for the Tyrrell Museum of Anthropology. We three kids in tow, I couldn't actually read about any of the exhibits, but the museum itself is outstanding. Very dramatic displays and gorgeous design. I wonder if you can rent it out for functions?
Towards the end of our museum tour DH had chest pain that he had been having for several days, and was concerned. We climbed the highest dinosaur in the world at the Information Centre, and got a good view of Drumheller and the valley.
Afterwards, DH went to the Drumheller Emerg to get checked out - 3 hours to be assessed, tested, and told he was fine...that would never happen so fast in Ottawa!
While DH was in Emerg, I took the kids to the public splash park - it was fantastic. Lots of water play (cannons, sprinklers, etc) and the girls had a good time. DD1 was upset that she didn't get a turn at the water cannons, but she was too shy to be 'pushy' and get her turn. Afterwards we picked up supper from AW and met DH at Emerg.
Came back to the campsite and had a nice campfire. Roasted some more giant marshmallows for giant S'Mores - so impractical, but so fun. DH and I were hoping to have some quiet time in the evening, but we had trouble getting the kids to bed...maybe tomorrow?

I think the name was changed because of the pee in teepee? I will see what my friend in Medicine Hat has to say about that and hopefully have an answer.
ReplyDeleteI find Drumheller quite awesome as well. I have never been to the Museum, so that sounds like a stop for us when we next tour Alberta.
Your DH was having chest pains and still climbed the highest dinosaur in the park! That is dedication. Nice to know that is was nothing in the end. Did they suggest anything, like stress or fatigue, or anything to say what was causing the chest pains?
I hope he gets better.
Nothing says, don't have to worry about a heart attack like A&W. I was razzed when my father-in-law came out of the Heart Institute after getting a stint and four angioplasts done, and we ordered Chinese - sigh.
Everything is better with giant marshmellows anyways. Good luck with your quiet time, well deserved and needed!
