Strathroy, ON

We arrived in Strathroy safe and sound. The drive was uneventful but incrediably long...it took us 10h to drive 700 kms!

It doesn't help that we have to get gas every 3 hours, and that refuelling time and nursing time for DS (dearest son) did not coincide. Plus every stop takes at least 20 min and more like 45. Started watching for licence plates today - Nova Scotia, Alaska, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. Wonder if we can get all provinces and states?

Had a nice lunch stop on the side of the road. Must teach girls how to pee on the side of the road by resting their butt on the car. DD1 tried to pee in the grass today and ended up with it pretty much everywhere. Dad took her, and obviously isn't attuned to the physics of peeing while crouching....

Girls were very excited to see their aunt and uncle. DD2 asked if she could sleep in her bed at home and I had to explain that we wouldn't see again for two months. She'll be fine once she is back in the trailer.

  1. Hopefully you will have some luck figuring out the schedule. It looks like you have 3 heavier days of driving after Faye's place - good luck! We are thinking of you. And although we do think you are crazy, not for doing the trip, but for doing it with a dog and a baby. I am too practical and would have waited, but then you wouldn't have had maternity leave and then the opportunity would have been gone.... so I credit you guys with the guts to do what we wouldn't have!

And your girls will remember this and all your family adventures for years to come!

  2. PS: I use real names on my Blogger account, and haven't had any strangers post comments or anything weird, yet! I tried to find myself once and it was pretty hard. Each to their own comfort level though.

  3. As one who has driven long periods of time, like Calgary to Kelvington after work on a Friday, then back to Calgary on Sunday afternoon, taking longer than expected can be quite frustrating!

Also learning the crouching pee technique is a toughy. Our DD had to do that whilst geocaching and we managed to wet socks, underwear, and shorts and then walk around for a half an hour after that. I think a designated pee cup to void in while crouching helps, just don't drink out of the cup again!

Good luck in license plate Bingo, that will be quite exciting! I hope you find that Hawaii plate!

As long as you are having fun, the rest of the kids and dog will too. I am sure they will get used to the trailer. Maybe our cross Canada trip will be in a few years. We are trying to figure out how to get to Mount Tremblant for next week!

Best of luck and following the blog!
